Is a royal reunion on the cards for Prince Harry and King Charles? Insiders say that the Duke of Sussex and his father may seek reconciliation during Harry’s trip to London in September

It’s been 20 months since Prince Harry last saw King Charles, but could a reunion between the father and son finally be on the cards when the Duke of Sussex returns to London in September? The estranged Prince is set to fly in from Montecito on 8 September to attend the WellChild awards, showing his support for a charity he has long patronised. The event coincides with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, with sources suggesting that ‘reconciliation is within reach’ for Prince Harry and his father after years of estrangement.

There is, an unnamed insider told The Mirror, ‘determination on both sides to make this happen’. a Issuing a caution that ‘nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been solved,’ the source noted that there was a ‘feeling the time is right’ for an olive branch between King Charles and Prince Harry. They added: ‘For the first time in a long time, there’s a genuine sense that reconciliation is within reach. Prince Harry’s team and the Palace have opened a line of communication, and there is every hope that father and son will see one another when the Duke returns to London in September.’

This potential reunion comes after senior aides working for the Duke of Sussex and His Majesty met for ‘peace talks’ in July at the Royal Over-Seas League. Tobyn Andreae, the King’s communications secretary, and Harry’s new chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, sat down for drinks at the members’ club, which prides itself on fostering international cooperation. ‘There’s a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years,’ a source told the Mail on Sunday at the time, and now it appears that the discussions could have fostered the first meeting between the King and his younger son since Prince Harry flew to London to visit Charles in the wake of His Majesty’s cancer diagnosis in February 2024.
