As Prince Louis Turns 8, The ‘Prince Of Faces’ Is Turning Over A New Leaf

There is no shortage of reasons to love Prince Louis — but perhaps the biggest one is this: in a family as watched and scrutinized as the British royal family, he has somehow remained completely, wonderfully himself. As the youngest child of Prince William and Princess Catherine, Louis turns 8 on April 23, 2026, and the little boy who once stole the entire show at the Platinum Jubilee is growing up fast.

Born at St. Mary’s Hospital in London on April 23, 2018, Louis Arthur Charles arrived as the third child of the Wales family — and the first male heir in British history to stand behind an older sister in the line of succession, thanks to updated royal laws. He is currently fourth in line to the throne, behind his father and older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

From the very beginning, Louis has been in a category of his own. While George has grown into quiet composure and Charlotte carries herself with natural grace, Louis arrived on the public scene with a personality so big it practically needed its own seat on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Royal fans will never forget the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, when a then 4-year-old Louis made faces, covered his ears during the RAF flypast, and at one point grabbed his mother’s chin and covered her mouth — all while King Charles watched on in visible amusement. The internet, predictably, lost its mind. His nickname, the “Prince of Faces,” was born that day and has stuck ever since.

The years since have only added to the legend. At King Charles‘s coronation in May 2023, Prince Louis mostly held it together — but couldn’t resist a few signature expressions that kept royal watchers entertained. He has since taken up drumming, a hobby that Prince William has admitted often requires ear protection for the rest of the household.

He attends Lambrook School in Berkshire alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and his parents continue to balance his growing public role with a fierce commitment to his privacy and to a normal childhood.

At Christmas 2025, Louis joined his family at Sandringham, where he once again delighted well-wishers along the way — accepting gifts with the kind of enthusiastic charm that has always set him apart. And just weeks before his 8th birthday, Louis made his most memorable recent appearance yet.

At the Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 5, 2026 — the Wales family’s first public Easter celebration since 2023 — Louis surprised everyone. The boy once famous for pulling faces and testing his mother’s patience in public walked dutifully alongside his family, shook hands with the Dean of Windsor, and carried himself with a quiet, easy confidence that had royal fans doing a double take.

But the moment that captured everyone’s heart was simple and unscripted. As King Charles arrived at the chapel, young Louis greeted him with a cheerful “Happy Easter!” — and the king responded by giving his grandson a warm, affectionate pat on the cheek, The Mirror reported. The “Prince of Faces” is turning 8. And somewhere along the way, without anyone quite noticing, he’s also becoming a little prince worth watching for all the right reasons.

Are you a fan of Prince Louis? Do you think he’s growing up to be just as charming and lovable as ever? Let us know, and then pass this on to your family, friends, and other royal family fans out there!
