Prince and Princess of Wales named as ‘most influential’ in Britain

The Prince and Princess of Wales have secured the top spot on Tatler’s 2025 Social Power Index– the magazine’s definitive list of Britain’s 100 “most socially significant people.”

Hailed as ‘the most influential in the land’, William and Catherine have triumphed over a host of esteemed names, including Sir David Attenborough and the ever-iconic Beckhams.

In its annual edition, often dubbed the ‘society bible’, Tatler praised the royal couple as ‘dream dinner guests’ and celebrated their poise, popularity, and purpose. The magazine specifically highlighted the Princess of Wales’s strength in the face of adversity, applauding her “grace and grit” following her recent cancer diagnosis.

‘Top billing goes to the Prince and Princess of Wales, future rulers of this sceptred isle – and dream dinner guests’ Tatler notes. The editorial went on to note the couple’s personal passions, from the Prince’s unwavering support for Aston Villa Football Club to their mutual love of nature and tennis. ‘They will have a kingdom to run in due course, which makes them the No 1 couple to have at your table’ the magazine concluded.

The 2025 Social Power Index paints a portrait of modern British influence, blending royalty, pop culture, politics, and activism. Coming in second were Maro and Mimi Itoje, with Princess Dora Loewenstein taking third. The Beckhams – former England football captain Sir David and ex-Spice Girl turned fashion mogul Lady Beckham – claimed fifth place. Their continued prominence was attributed in part to Sir David’s recent knighthood, with Tatler noting, ‘Brand Beckham just grows and grows’.

Naturalist and national treasure Sir David Attenborough held the sixth position, while actor Dominic West and landscape designer Catherine Fitzgerald ranked seventh. Health Secretary Wes Streeting, recognised for both his political profile and his surprising karaoke prowess, came in eighth alongside partner Joe Dancey.

The top 10 was rounded out by industrialists Lord and Lady Bamford in ninth and Industry star Marisa Abela with partner Jamie Bogyo in tenth.

William and Catherine join members of the Royal Family on national occasions
The news comes months after William and Catherine were featured in Time’s 100 most influential philanthropists with the publication commending the couple as innovators for “modernising royal philanthropy” noting that “Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues.”
