Anyone wearing claw clips whilst driving issued grim warning

Fans of a claw clip have been issued a stern warning from a doctor about the risks of wearing one while driving.

Despite being on the scene for decades, the chic hair accessory has sky-rocketed in popularity in recent years, with TikTok influencers constantly coming up with new ideas for their fans to style their tresses, and celebs rocking them all over Instagram.

As we say, however, one medic is using their platform to emphasise that cute locks could come at a cost – especially when it comes to getting behind the wheel. Taking to Instagram, ER doctor and social media personality Dr Joe shared his advice in a startling new video.

“A friendly neighbour PSA for women out there,” he began. “Do you like to wear these claw-style hair clips?”

The medic then went on to claim: “I’ve taken several of these out of women’s heads after car accidents.

“These little plastic things can be a real pain in the butt to get out from underneath the scalp once they’re embedded.

“Worst yet, are the metal ones. I actually saw a patient once that had a metal hair clip in her head during a car accident, and afterwards, she had a skull fracture and a brain bleed.”

Giving his fans some harrowing advice, he went on to warn them: “Make sure your taking precautions if you’re in a car with these hair clips.

“It might be a better idea to use a different type of hair tie.”

Naturally, the warning has left a number of Dr Joe’s followers feeling sick to their stomach, with many insisting they’ll be ditching claw clips for good going forward.

“Yikes I’m glad I wear scrunchies,” one fan admitted.

Another wrote: “Oh My! I never knew these could be so damaging to someones skull – Thanks for sharing this info.

“I’ll keep being a Scrunchie gal for life!”

Another jibed: “Me: Puts phone down, cuts hair.”

A fourth went on to explain: “They’re uncomfortable to wear anyway during driving bc it would be in the way of my headrest when I’m in position and that’s the reason I take them off.”

“Wow never imagined this would happen. They are uncomfortable to a point but I will never wear again. Thank you,” penned another.

Dr Joe’s warning comes after one fashion fan opened up on her harrowing trip to the hospital, after she was caught in a deadly road traffic incident whilst wearing a claw clip.

Taking to TikTok last year, Paisley Nicole recalled riding in the car with her friend when she announced that she ‘had to go pee’, after which her pal ‘turned really hard’.

“We were going just under 20 miles an hour,” she recalled at the time. “The back of my head hit a metal bar, which lodged the claw clip in the back of my head.”

She was later rushed to a nearby emergency room, adding: “When we got there, they immediately took me back to get a CT and X-rays of my head and chest to make sure I didn’t have any brain damage, which I was very lucky I did not.”

Thankfully, the damage to Paisley’s skull proved that the injury wouldn’t be fatal.

Though, she did end up needing five staples in her head.

So, if that hasn’t put you off, I don’t know what will.
