Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘cut King Charles to the quick’ when they made the decision to leave the Royal Family, according to a new bombshell book
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave the Royal Family and move to the US deeply affected King Charles, according to a royal expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the bombshell decision back in 2020 and have since been caught in a feud with the Royal Family. Royal author Robert Jobson has now suggested the King was “so hurt” over Meghan and Harry leaving The Firm.
He claimed Charles “tried to reach out to Meghan and treated her with the same love and affection as he did Catherine”. The author has also suggested the monarch “welcomed her with open arms,” making the events following Megxit even more difficult.
In his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography, Jobson also suggested Harry had always been Charles’ favorite son, which is why his and Meghan’s controversial decisions, including the Duke’s tell-all memoir and the couple’s Netflix documentary, left the King devastated.
An excerpt from the book said: “At first Charles tried to reach out to Meghan and treated her with the same love and affection as he did Catherine. But they are very different characters.
“He welcomed her with open arms and wanted her to feel part of the family. That is why Harry and Meghan’s behavior has cut him to the quick.”
Jobson believes the one positive outcome from this challenging situation is that it has brought Charles and Prince William closer together. A source also told the author Kate Middleton has been pivotal in bridging the gaps, saying: “The duchess is somebody who always tries to see both sides of any dispute. She has a cool head and is ’emotionally mature’; she can open William’s eyes to other points of view like no other.”
The last encounter between Harry and his father occurred in the wake of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, with Harry still yet to reunite with the rest of the Royal Family.
