Princess Catherine ‘apology’ to Prince William on first overseas trip after birth of son George

TikTok fans can’t get enough of a clip showing Kate Middleton apologising to her husband, Prince William.

The footage – from the royals’ visit to Australia and New Zealand in 2014 – has resurfaced online recently, and it has rapidly gone viral.

It shows the now Princess of Wales saying “sorry” and consoling her royal spouse, whom she had been married to for three years at the time. However, even for viewers watching the video without any context, it swiftly becomes apparent that Kate’s ‘apology’ may not have been delivered sincerely.

That’s because Kate gently teased her husband – and playfully mocking him with a big smile on her face after besting him in a boat race.

The moment that has done the rounds on social media arose when the couple travelled to the harbour in Auckland.

Both Kate and  Prince William each helmed an Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup yacht for a spin around the Viaduct Basin. And Kate prevailed TWICE.

“I’m sorry,” she playfully tells Prince William in the clip, making out as if he was hard done by. But the huge grin she wore also betrayed Kate’s true feelings as she revelled in her victory.

Viewed almost two million times, the resurfaced clip remains a happy reminder of the Waleses’ first overseas trip following the birth of their first child.

Prince George was just a toddler when he made his way Down Under, and royal fans appeared captivated by the new royal who wasn’t even a year old at the time.

While he was cared for by a nanny as his parents attended engagements, the young prince also made appearances himself. Furthermore, Kate has reportedly indicated she might wish to return to Oz with all three of her children.

Noting Prince George is “fascinated” by such a significant trip he nonetheless cannot recall, Kate said earlier this year: “I would like to go back there with them now. It’s finding time to do that.”

Kate went on to explain: “We tend to go further afield when it’s official visits. It’s being able to carve out time to experience these countries in a more private capacity.

“Otherwise, you end up seeing lots of insides of amazing buildings. But you don’t get to meet that many people.”

She added: “It’s making sure that you can combine a bit of work with the children.”

However, it is unclear when the next big visit involving all the Waleses may occur. And any plans could also be affected by the  royal convention concerning how those in line to the throne travel.
